Giratory crusher: how it works?

  • 0
  • 0
Description

A gyratory crusher is an ore processing machine that crushes large rocks into smaller ones. It works by applying pressure to the rocks as they enter the crushing chamber. To work a gyratory crusher, you will need to adjust the size of the opening at the bottom of the crusher to allow for the right sized rocks to enter. You will then need to turn on the machine and feed it with the appropriate sized rocks. After the rocks have been crushed, you will need to move them to the appropriate area for further processing ((5) How to Work a Gyratory Crusher? | LinkedIn, n.d.). The primary function of a gyratory crusher in the mining industry is to reduce the size of large rocks, breaking them down into smaller pieces. Gyratory crushers are also used to crush ore and other materials into particle sizes that can be fed into grinding mills or further processed. Gyratory crushers are designed for high capacity operations, and are often used in both open pit and underground mining operations ((5) What Are the Functions of a Gyratory Crusher in Mining? | LinkedIn, n.d.).

The working principle

In a cone crusher the rock material is crushed between rigid surfaces. The motion of the moving surface is independent of the loading of the crusher. Therefore, the explored comminution principle is form conditioned compressive crushing. Crushing takes place continuously and is interparticle to a great extent. Interparticle crushing is achieved when a particle is stressed and broken between other particles. Interparticle breakage is desirable from the point of view of wear and service life. Interparticle breakage is also considered to give the best shape of the produced particles. To achieve interparticle breakage choke fed conditions are normally recommended. Choke fed conditions imply that the inlet of the crusher is covered with feed material. The feed material is then fed into the crusher by the influence of gravity (CMEPh DThesis 2000 – PDFCOFFEE.COM, n.d.).

Functions of Giratory crusher

A gyratory crusher is a type of primary crushing equipment used in mines and ore processing plants. It operates by allowing the material to be crushed between a fixed outer surface, called the concave, and a rotating inner surface, known as the mantle. Here are the main functions of a gyratory crusher in mining ((5) What Are the Functions of a Gyratory Crusher in Mining? | LinkedIn, n.d.):

Primary Crushing

Gyratory crushers are primarily used for the initial crushing of large-sized rocks, ores, and other materials. They are designed to handle high-capacity feed rates and large feed sizes. The main advantage of a gyratory crusher is its ability to process materials with a high compression strength, making it suitable for handling hard and abrasive materials found in mining operations.

Size Reduction

The primary function of a gyratory crusher is to reduce the size of the material being crushed. As the material enters the crusher, it is crushed between the mantle and concave, which causes the material to break and become smaller in size. The gyratory crusher’s large feed opening and steep crushing chamber allow for efficient reduction of the material.

Uniform Particle Size Distribution

Gyratory crushers are designed to produce a uniform particle size distribution, which is important for downstream processing and efficient operation of other equipment in the mining process. By controlling the size of the output material, gyratory crushers help ensure that subsequent stages of crushing and grinding can operate effectively.

Continuous Operation

Gyratory crushers are capable of continuous operation, unlike jaw crushers that need periodic interruptions for maintenance. This continuous operation makes gyratory crushers well-suited for large-scale mining operations where a constant supply of material needs to be processed.

Reliability and Maintenance

Gyratory crushers are known for their robust construction and long lifespan. They are designed to withstand high workloads and harsh operating conditions typically encountered in mining environments. While regular maintenance is still necessary, gyratory crushers generally require less maintenance compared to other types of crushers.

Safety

Gyratory crushers are designed with safety in mind. They are typically equipped with safety features such as a self-tightening concave liner and a hydraulic system to protect against overloads. These safety mechanisms help prevent damage to the crusher and ensure the safety of the operators.
