Beautiful slickenfibers on a fracture surface that has sheared!

These crystals of calcite and quartz formed as a result of fault creep. While the tension steps in the elongated crystals are perpendicular to the slip direction, the long axis is parallel to the slip direction. For the upper block, the sense of slip direction is down step.
The slickenfibres in this instance show that the down-hole side has shifted “obliquely down hole.” The movement is better described as “right-lateral thrust” after the structure is measured and the core is orientated. It is now time to enquire about things like “How does this fracture fit into the larger dynamic and kinematic picture?” and “When did this structure last move?”
These were discovered in the Cracow tenements, which are owned and managed by Aeris Resources, close to Golden Plateau, from diamond drill core that we had recovered during our exploratory program.
