A hammer crusher, also known as a hammer mill or hammer mill crusher, is a machine used to shred or crush materials into smaller pieces by the repeated blows of hammers. It is commonly used in industries such as mining, construction, and agriculture to reduce the size of various materials like coal, limestone, gypsum, and more. Here is its working principle:
Feeding: the material to be crushed is typically fed into the hammer crusher’s inlet, either manually or through a conveyor belt, depending on the specific design of the crusher.
Crushing chamber: inside the hammer crusher, there is a rotating shaft with hammers or blades attached to it. The material enters the crushing chamber, where it comes into contact with the rotating hammers.
Impact and crushing: as the shaft with hammers rotates, the hammers repeatedly strike the material with significant force. The impact and crushing force generated by the hammers shatter and crush the material into smaller pieces. This action continues until the material reaches the desired size or until it can pass through the openings in the screen or grate located at the bottom of the crushing chamber.
Sizing: the size of the crushed material can be controlled by adjusting the gap between the hammers and the screen or grate at the bottom of the crusher. This gap determines the final size of the crushed particles. Smaller gap settings result in finer materials, while wider gaps produce coarser particles.
Discharge: once the material reaches the desired size, it falls through the openings in the screen or grate and is discharged from the bottom of the crusher. Larger pieces that do not meet the desired size criteria remain in the crushing chamber for further processing.
