Another MEGA Diamond recovered in AFRICA: MASSIVE 2,492-carat DIAMOND discovered in mine in Botswana: A MASSIVE 2,492-carat diamond — one of the largest such stones ever found — has been unearthed from a mine in Botswana.
Lucara Diamond said it recovered a 2,492-carat diamond from its Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana, one of the largest rough diamonds ever unearthed. But it’s not that much smaller than the 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond, the world’s largest, which was discovered in South Africa in 1905.
The latest discovery joins other significant diamond finds from the Karowe mine, including the 1,758 carat Sewelo and the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona, Lucara said Wednesday.
The diamond was found using Lucara’s Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray Transmission technology, which was installed in 2017. William Lamb, the company’s president and chief executive, said the find showcases the potential of the Karowe Mine, and also upholds the company’s strategic investment in XRT technology.
