Mining support equipment refers to the specialized machines, vehicles, and stationary systems that do not directly extract or load the ore, but are essential for maintaining the mine’s infrastructure, safety, and the efficiency of the main production fleet.
Surface mining operations rely on various machines to manage large-scale sites efficiently. Motor graders maintain haul road shape and stability, reducing tire wear and increasing truck speeds, while dozers clear rock, shape waste dumps, and feed primary crushers. Water trucks and sprayers control dust for better visibility and air quality, and cranes and forklifts handle equipment and supplies in workshops. Additionally, ancillary vehicles such as personnel carriers, maintenance trucks, and refueling units support overall site operations (Editor_Sibo2024, 2025).
Underground mining relies on specialized equipment to maintain safety and structural stability. Roof bolters install rock bolts and mesh to prevent collapses, while shotcrete machines apply concrete for ground support, and scaling machines remove loose rock after blasting. Utility vehicles and service trucks transport personnel, materials, and supplies, and scissor or boom lifts enable work at height for installing ventilation, electrical systems, and additional ground support (Hillier, 2022).
Other support equipment includes shotcrete machines for tunnel stabilization, rock crushers and conveyors for material handling, and maintenance tools like cranes and dust control systems. These machines enable excavation, loading, transport, and site upkeep, tailored to surface or underground mining needs.
