A drill chuck is a clamping device that is attached to the spindle of a drill, cordless drill, compact screwdriver, CNC machine tool or hammer drill and has the task of holding insert tools such as drills, bits and other insert tools.
In a drill chuck, the insert tool (such as a drill bit or screwdriver bit) is held in place by three clamping jaws. This three-point clamping system ensures that the tool is automatically centered during tightening. Inside the chuck, a threaded mechanism moves the jaws inward along a conical guide when tightened, which securely clamps the tool in place(“Quick-Action Drill Chuck,” 2020).
Moreso, the drill chuck functions as a tool holder, acting as the crucial interface between the machine and the tool. In this role, it carries significant responsibility and must meet several key requirements. A high-quality drill chuck should securely grip the tool shank, hold it firmly in position, and transmit the applied forces efficiently between the tool and the machine. At the same time, it should be user-friendly and practical in everyday operation(Tools, n.d.).
