After Newmont Corporation acquired Newcrest Mining Limited on November 6, 2023, it now owns 100% of Cadia, one of Australia’s biggest gold mining operations.
Cadia is proudly situated in the Blayney Shire Council Local Government Area, around 250 kilometres west of Sydney and 25 kilometres from Orange in Central West New South Wales (NSW).
The Cadia East underground mine, one of the world’s greatest copper and gold resources, is located on our property. Panel caving is a large-scale mining technique used at Cadia East, which started commercial production in January 2013.
The site also comprises the Cadia Hill Pit Tailings Storage Facility and the Ridgeway underground mine, which is currently in care and maintenance.
Newmont Cadia uses a flotation circuit to create gold-rich copper concentrates and a gravity circuit to make gold doré bars. The concentrates are transported by rail to Port Kembla, New South Wales, for export after being piped to a dewatering facility in the neighbouring town of Blayney.
Molybdenum concentrate, a by-product credit to All-In Sustaining Cost per ounce, is anticipated to provide a new revenue stream from the Molybdenum Plant, which was put into service during the March 2022 quarter.
