Description
Veladero is a well-known gold mining facility in the province of San Juan in Argentina that exists in the Frontera District, part of the Andes Mountain Range, which is considered to be quite prospective for mining operations. This mining site exists at a high altitude of between 4,000 and 4,850 meters above sea level. The project is a 50/50 joint venture between Barrick Mining Corporation and Shandong Gold (China). It is an open-pit mine using heap leach processing approach. Ore is piled on a concrete pad and rinsed with cyanide to extract gold and silver.
Production performance
The results in this table are issued from the Barrick gold website
| 2025 performance | Forecast for 2026 performance | |
| Gold production | 230,000 oz | 180,000-200,000 oz |
| Cost of sales | $1,286/oz | $2,000-2,210/oz |
| Total cash costs | $785/oz | $1,160-1,280/oz |
| AlSC | $1,450/oz | $1,460-1,620/oz |
According to Barrick Gold website, the mine has 1.4 million ounces of both proven and probable gold reserves with 2.1 million ounces of measured and indicated gold resources and 260,000 ounces of inferred gold resources.
According to panorama-ninero, Barrick has committed $271 million USD through 2027 to extend Veladero’s mine life until 2035, with an expected average annual production rate of approximately 400,000 ounces. The improvements were driven by process optimization and the successful implementation of Phase 7B of the leaching platform.
