Asanko Gold Mine (AGM) is owned by Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd (herein referred to as “Asanko”). The parent company of Asanko, Galiano Gold Inc., has headquarters based in Vancouver, Canada. In general, the two companies uphold extremely high standards in their environmental policies, social responsibility practices, and health and safety concerns both for their employees and local communities.
The mine covers the largest land holding in the promising and underexplored area of the Asankrangwa Belt. The management of the operations is focused on discoveries in the region by undertaking various exploration activities. Currently, the mine contains four key open pits: Abore, Nkran, Esaase, and Miradani North, as well as some additional satellite deposits and 5.8 Mt per year Carbon-In-Leach processing facility. Around 2,200 people are employed at Asanko Gold Mine, among which 99% are Ghanaians, whereas around 45% are from the local communities.
According to the owner, in 2025, the AGM produced 121,191 ounces of gold. The AGM is forecast to produce between 140,000 ounces to 160,000 ounces of gold at AISC* between $2,000/oz to $2,300/oz in 2026.
The Asanko Gold Mine foresees an output increase of 25% in 2026 due to new crushing technology and usage of better quality Ab ore. Mill throughput is forecasted to rise by 15% as a result of processing of lower ores in 2026 and 2027. As the low-grade Abore deposit is exhausted, the operations will smoothly transfer to the more rich Nkran deposit to help grow the company over time. Until early 2029, it is anticipated that a steady state of ore feeding from this phase will raise the yearly output to exceed 200,000 ounces.
In addition to open pit operations, the exploration drilling performed in 2025 proved the existence of considerable resources under the Nkran and Abore deposits. As a result, the maiden underground resources of 303,000 indicated ounces and 525,000 inferred ounces of gold were found at this site. The results obtained prove the existence of considerable and potentially economic mineralization below the existing open-pit boundaries. Taking into account the fact that both Deposits have not been fully explored by now and remain open, further exploration of resources can be expected in 2026.
Asanko Gold Mine has an important social impact in Ghana and as reported by Galiano Gold, approximately 3,400 full-time personnel and contractors are employed at the AGM. 99% of the total workforce are Ghanaians, of which approximately 50% are from our local catchment communities.
