How Does an Impact Crusher Crush Hard Rocks?

  • 2
  • 2

Impact crushers are commonly used to crush various types of hard and abrasive materials, such as aggregate, ores, and recycling materials. They are particularly useful for producing cubical-shaped end products and are commonly used in the construction and mining industries.

Here’s how an impact crusher works:

1. Feed Material: The process begins with the feed material. It could be rocks, concrete, or any other material you want to crush. The material is loaded into the crusher’s feed hopper or entrance.

2. Rotor and Hammers: Inside the impact crusher, there’s a rotor with hammers attached. The rotor is mounted on a horizontal axis, and it spins at a high speed. The hammers are usually made of manganese steel or other durable materials.

3. Impact and Crushing: As the rotor spins, the hammers strike the material that has been fed into the crusher. This impact generates a significant amount of force and energy, which breaks the material into smaller pieces. The kinetic energy from the rotating rotor is transferred to the material upon impact, causing it to fracture.

4. Curtain or Liner: To control the size of the crushed material and ensure it meets the desired specifications, impact crushers often have a curtain or liner that can be adjusted. This curtain can be moved to regulate the size of the crushed material and the discharge gap.

5. Discharge: Once the material has been crushed to the desired size, it passes through the curtain or liner and exits the crusher as the final product. The size of the crushed material can be adjusted by changing the position of the curtain or liner.
