In the mining process, Mining Trucks bear a crucial transportation role. However, the complex and ever-changing operating environments in mining areas, combined with the large size of mining trucks, lead to limited driver visibility, especially when backing up, turning, or operating on narrow roads. For a better production rate as well as a safer working environment, it is important to apply mitigation strategies to reduce this issue.
Below are some mitigation techniques:
- Collision Avoidance System ( CAS): A CAS employs data integrated from sensors and cameras to alert operators of potential hazards in the vicinity of their vehicle. It’s implementation involves risk assessment, solution testing, and change management to support new, safer ways of working.
- Improving Communication Among Workers : Effective communication is critical in preventing collisions between vehicles and pedestrians. Using two-way radios, signaling systems ensures that workers and vehicle operators are aware of each other’s movements.

Example: Installing high-intensity lights along haul roads and intersections can improve visibility for drivers, reducing the risk of accidents. - Regular Equipment Maintenance : Regular maintenance is essential to ensure that all equipment functions properly, especially systems designed to prevent collisions.
Example:Routine inspections of braking systems, steering mechanisms, and backup alarms can prevent malfunctions that may contribute to accidents(FATFINGER, 2025).
