Types and Functions of Mining Hauling Machines
Haul Trucks (Dump Trucks): These are the primary transport vehicles in mining. They come in articulated and rigid types and are designed to carry heavy loads across rough terrain. They transport extracted materials like ore and waste rock and have hydraulic systems for dumping loads efficiently(Manager, 2025).
Wheel Loaders: These versatile machines scoop up and load materials into haul trucks or conveyors. They feature large buckets for digging and moving bulk materials and are also used to create stockpiles and clear mining areas(Access, 2024).
Excavators: Designed for digging and material handling, excavators use hydraulic systems to control the boom, arm, and bucket. Mounted on tracks or wheels, they can rotate 360 degrees, making them efficient for excavation and loading tasks.
Bucket Wheel Excavators: Massive machines equipped with a rotating wheel of buckets that enable continuous digging and material transport, commonly used in open-pit mining for moving soil, coal, and ore.
Conveyor Systems: Although not vehicles, belt conveyors are used to continuously transport bulk materials like coal and ore from mining areas to processing plants, complementing hauling trucks.
