Broken Hill Proprietary (BHP) Group : formerly known as BHP Billiton, is the trading company of BHP Group Limited and BHP Group plc, an Anglo-Australian multinational mining, metals and petroleum company based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
China Shenhua Energy Co. Ltd. : China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (CSE) is the largest coal company in China and one of the top four coal producers in the world. The company produced 121.4 million tons of commercial coal in 2005 and holds nearly six billion tons of marketable coal reserves, enough to last nearly 50 years at current production levels. The company, created in 2004 as part of the restructuring of parent company Shenhua Group, operates several highly automated, state-of-the-art large-scale mines in the Erdos Coal Basin, making it one of the most efficient coal producers in the world, with operating profits of approximately 45 percent(China Shenhua Energy Company Limited | Encyclopedia.Com, n.d.).
Rio Tinto : Rio Tinto is a leading international business involved in each stage of metal and mineral production. The Group combines Rio Tinto plc, which is listed on the London StockEx change, and Rio Tinto Limited, which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
The British based Rio Tinto Company was formed by investors in 1873 to mine ancient copper workings at Rio Tinto near Huelva in southern Spain. The Consolidated Zinc Corporation was incorporated in 1905 to treat zinc bearing mine waste at Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The RTZ Corporation (formerly The Rio Tinto-Zinc Corporation) was formed in 1962 by the merger of The Rio Tinto Company and The Consolidated Zinc Corporation.
CRA Limited (formerly Conzinc Riotinto of Australia Limited) was formed at the same time by a merger of the Australian interests of The Consolidated Zinc Corporation and The Rio Tinto Company(Rio Tinto (RIO) – Market Capitalization, n.d.).
