In Kassanda, the shift began like any other.
Then the pit collapsed.
One life was lost.
Several workers were trapped.
Emergency crews rushed in.
Three miners were pulled out, fighting for survival.
Several others were critically injured.
The cause? Unstable soil.
Identified risk? Heavy rainfall.
Had this happened before? Yes.
Was it avoidable? Also, yes.
Was it expected? Unfortunately, yes.
This is what risk looks like when leadership sees it… and operations proceed anyway.
When crews trade lives for output, something has gone terribly wrong.
Safety cannot live on paper.
It has to sit at the center of every operational decision, every single day.
My thoughts are with the injured workers,
and with the family of the man who didn’t make it home.
At what point does prevention finally matter more than profit?
