Enhancing both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) awareness is becoming increasingly critical for improving safety and productivity in underground mining operations.
LoopX has recently completed rigorous testing of its second-generation Situational Awareness System (SAS) in a production underground mine. The system is now commercially available for deployment.
This new solution integrates:
-
Stereo cameras (thermal and RGB) and 3D LiDAR with a built-in IMU to enable advanced environmental perception, allowing mobile equipment to “see” and interpret complex underground environments.
-
Wi-Fi-based detection to identify personnel and vehicles even when they are hidden around corners or outside the direct field of view.
-
AI-powered fusion algorithms to combine sensor inputs, recognize potential hazards, and deliver real-time alerts to operators.
By fusing perception and detection technologies, the system significantly enhances situational awareness, helping to reduce collision risks and improve operational safety.
A demonstration video is available to showcase how the system performs in real-world mining conditions. Free on-site demonstrations can also be arranged for mines interested in evaluating the technology.
