An orogenic gold deposit refers to a unique mineral deposit that is developed deep in the earth’s crust when there are active movements of mountain formation. Gravity concentration, on the other hand, refers to an essential metallurgical technique employed to concentrate precious minerals by separating them from unmineralized rock using density as a criterion. The Blagodatnoye mine is one such example.
The Blagodatnoye mine, found in the Severo-Yeniseisky district of the Yenisei Ridge in Krasnoyarsk Territory of Russia, is an impressive example of engineering and geological structures. The Blagodatnoye deposit is geologically located in the ancient Riphean rocks of the Corda formation. Its structural characteristics include the presence of a very steeply inclined S-shaped fault system, stretching under the ground and forming a highly efficient structural trap for gold mineralization (Shaparenko et al., 2021).
Economically speaking, the Blagodatnoye gold mine ranks among the most productive open pit gold mines in the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the deposit was discovered in 1967 due to geological exploration, mining activities on an industrial scale only began in 2010. Currently, the mine is home to proven gold reserves of 340 tons, thus becoming one of the key economic centers of both regional and national significance (Shaparenko et al., 2021).
Indeed, the development of such an enormous amount of gold resources is inseparably related to complex geochemical processes that lasted millions of years. The detailed study of isotopic and fluid inclusion composition proves that the temperature of the formation of the Blagodatnoye ore deposits varied from 120 to 350 °C (Shaparenko et al., 2021). The ore-forming fluids that had a completely different crustal origin consisted of various combinations of water, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and highly saline aqueous solutions which later resulted in the precipitation of the native gold.
For its extraction, it is essential to apply rather complex infrastructure that includes highly specific technologies. The processing facilities of Blagodatnoye deposit depend significantly on modern metallurgical technologies, such as gravity concentration, which is extremely efficient in extraction of the smallest size free gold and gold in association with the quartz and sulfides (Surimbayev et al., 2024).
In conclusion, the Blagodatnoye mine is a very interesting combination of geological history and modern mining technology. From the early orogenic period at the base of the Yenisei Ridge to the huge factories that are now in operation, the mine is a valuable resource in the international gold mining industry. Future research and technological development will guarantee the continued production of gold from this huge resource.
