Coal quality after processing is determined by a few factors, including:
• Sulfur content : Coal with high sulfur content produces more sulfur dioxide when burned, which can contribute to air pollution and acid rain (Which Country Coal Is Best Quality?, 2024).
• Moisture content is a measure of how much water is present in the coal. High moisture content can make coal more difficult to burn thereby reducing its heating value.
• Ash content is a measure of how much non-combustible material, such as rock and dirt, is present in the coal. High ash content can make coal more difficult to burn. Less residue after combustion, indicates a higher efficiency and less equipment wear.
• Heating value of coal is a measure of how much energy it contains per unit of weight. The higher the energy released during combustion, the better the coal quality.
