A Mining Production Geologist is a geoscientist who specializes in the extraction of minerals and materials from the earth. They are responsible for identifying and evaluating mineral deposits, developing and implementing exploration plans, and monitoring mining operations.
They use a variety of tools and techniques, including geological mapping, geochemical and geophysical surveys, and drilling to gather data and make informed decisions about the feasibility and profitability of mining operations. Mining Production Geologists may work in a variety of settings, including mines, quarries, oil and gas fields, and mineral processing plants(What Does a Mining Production Geologist Do?, n.d.).
The role of a production geologist is a constant balance between science and strategy. We’d love to hear from our fellow geologists and engineers: What’s the most unexpected challenge you’ve faced on-site, and how did you solve it?
